Said about the Symposium:

Oskar Brůža, Secretary of Union of The Valtice symposium has survived and ranks among those which have several specific features. The sculpture symposia are supposed to make use of their "products“ by installing them in public places. As for the painting symposia held in the Czech Republic, it happens very rarely that the pictures are kept to form a whole collection. But Valtice symposium is one of such. Valtice castle houses numerous paintings created in the years 1992–2005. There are more than 100 pieces.

Vladimír Franz
The original idea to organize the symposium goes back to the beginning of 90s and its "spiritual fathers“ were Mr. Jaroslav Pelikán, an art theorist and Mr. Jan Pospíšil, a painter. The statute of the symposium is quite free when it comes either to the topic or techniques and thus we can see a creative approach of various artists dealing with large format pictures, various solutions of how to approach monumental tasks, a space, an illusion, time, a conventionalization, a compactness of the picture, a personal input, a decorativeness, a possible servitude of the picture or an influence on the place itself.

Jan Pospíšil
Between 2001 and 2002 I realized the important role of the oragnizing team. I do not mean management part of the work, which is also important. What I want to stress is cooperation of artists, who have organizing and presenting abilities. Mr. Mikoláš Axmann and Mr. Vladimír Franz appear to be just the right ones to work with.
